To go the extra mile is to make an extra effort, to do more than the usual amount, to exceed expectations. This week, several of my current and former students have gone the extra mile. I won't embarass them by writing their names here, but whether it was making a comment in English or writing a truly excellent report, studying very hard for an exam or doing homework in the middle of a very busy week, they all went the extra mile.
